Outlook

Cold night ahead--quiet weekend to follow weatherwise. Single digits likely away from the lake. A few of the coldest locations headed below zero. Snow system Mon PM into Tue AM--potentially one of two nxt week alone-kicks off what's looking like a decidedly snowier 2 week pattern here. An avg of 1 latest computer snow estimates here for next 2 weeks (thru Jan 1) is 8.4"-more than double 125 yr avg of 3.9".

It's a way off, but a series of National Weather Service's's GFS model runs puts a second snow system in here Christmas Eve. Much can change in that time. But, it's been 13 years since the last significant Christmas Eve snow (of 2"+) in the Chicago area. The last 8"+ Christmas Eve/Christmas Day snow occurred 59 years ago when 8.6" fell Dec 24-25, 1951.
